Our Envisioned Futures (2021)
My square was inspired by NASA images of Saturns rings, the overlapping images capture a beautiful contrast between the pale colors of the planets rings and the shadows that they cast. I used safflower dyed cotton and indigo for the piece. I made two different colors using safflower petals- pale pink and yellow. The indigo is dark blue and light blue. The prompt inspired me to create meditatively, reflecting on the lessons of the Parables podcast hosted by Toshi Reagan and adrienne marie brown, and the stridently hopeful Finding Our Way podcast by Prentis and Eddy Hemphill.
